Job Description:
The International Field Support Technician is an on-site technical specialist at an L3Harris customer manufacturing facility in Algiers, supporting a high-visibility Transfer of Technology (ToT) program. The role focuses on keeping production, inspection, and test equipment operational, and supporting the needs of our Rochester-based and customer teams in successfully accomplishing the objectives of the program, including customer support, training, technical troubleshooting/repairs, administrative coordination, and other duties. This role will report to the International Program Manager for Algeria, and be based in Algiers, Algeria with occassional travel to Rochester, NY or other business sites as required (less than 10%).
Essential Functions:
- Support and enable on-time execution of factory repairs, upgrades, training, low-rate initial production (LRIP), and full-rate production (FRP) by:
- Coaching and mentoring customer personnel
- Assisting with troubleshooting and repair of equipment down to the component/sub assembly level
- Communicating with the Rochester-based program team to escalate and resolve issues
- Support setup, operation, and changeover of production and test equipment per established procedures and work instructions.
- Provide day-to-day technical support for manufacturing, inspection, and test equipment (e.g., SMT line, ovens, leak testers, AOI/X-ray, torque tools, compressors, vacuum systems), including:
- Performing basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance
- Planning and coordinating vendor/OEM maintenance and calibration
- Starting up and verifying equipment after downtime or repair
- Performing other related duties to maintain equipment readiness
- Assist in defining, collecting, and monitoring critical manufacturing metrics (e.g., yields, recurring defects, process deviations, inventory usage/attrition) needed for successful and cost-effective factory operation.
- Collaborate with local (in-country) L3Harris and customer teams to report equipment and production status, open issues, and risks to the Rochester program team.
- Act as an on-site technical interface between customer technicians and L3Harris engineers for equipment and process issues, obtaining additional support for repairs or issues that cannot be resolved on site.
- Maintain concise, accurate records of issues, actions taken, parts replaced, test results, and follow-up items.
- Support implementation and verification of approved engineering changes, updated procedures, software/firmware updates, and test changes as required.
- Provide hands-on coaching and mentoring to customer technicians on proper use and care of equipment, troubleshooting techniques, assembly and test practices, and adherence to procedures, internal documents, and industry best practices.
- Identify skill gaps and training needs within the customer team and communicate them to the L3Harris team as required.
Qualifications:
- Requires fully proficient job knowledge/skills. Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with technology transfer, in-country production, or as a resident technical representative on international programs.
- Familiarity with L3Harris radio products or similar tactical communications equipment.
- Proficiency in French (spoken and written).
- 3+ years of experience as an electronics, manufacturing, test, or field service technician in a factory or lab environment.
- Ability to read and follow technical procedures, work instructions, and equipment manuals.
- Practical experience with at least one of: SMT/electronics assembly, electronic test equipment/test stations, or industrial support systems (compressed air, vacuum, nitrogen, ESD).
- Strong troubleshooting skills and systematic problem-solving approach.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Willingness and ability to live and work in Algiers on a long-term assignment.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New York state is [$67,000 - $124,000]. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
